FINAL-YEAR HIGH OUTPUT 103 – A BIG DIFFERENCE

All Harley-Davidson Switchbacks used the 1,690cc Twin Cam 103 engine, but there is an important difference between the model years.

2012–2015 Switchbacks were fitted with the standard Twin Cam 103.

For the final 2016 model year, Harley-Davidson upgraded the Switchback to the High Output Twin Cam 103.

The engine capacity remained at 1,690cc / 103 cubic inches, but the High Output specification was designed to provide improved breathing and stronger performance while retaining the huge low-down torque and relaxed cruising ability that makes the Twin Cam 103 such a great engine.

That makes the 2016 Switchback the one to have if you are looking for the ultimate factory development of the FLD.

Combined with its final-year status, low mileage, one-owner history and factory ABS, this is a very attractive example.

The Harley-Davidson Switchback

The Switchback was introduced to offer something slightly different within the Harley-Davidson range.

Built around the famous Dyna chassis, Harley added many of the touring features normally associated with its larger FL models, creating a bike that offered genuine long-distance capability without the size and weight of a full touring machine.

The result was effectively two motorcycles in one.

Leave the detachable windscreen and colour-coded hard panniers fitted and you have a comfortable, practical touring Harley.

Remove them and the bike quickly transforms into a much cleaner, more traditional Dyna cruiser.

It is this versatility that gave the model its Switchback name.

FACTORY ABS

This 2016 Switchback is also equipped with factory ABS.

Importantly, ABS was standard equipment on the 2016 FLD Switchback, rather than an aftermarket addition.

It gives the rider the reassurance of modern anti-lock braking while still retaining the traditional feel and character of Harley-Davidson’s Twin Cam Dyna platform.
