KEY INFORMATION
2013 Honda VT1300CX Fury
1,312cc V-Twin | 13,771 Miles | 2 Owners | Florida Import | £7,995
Here we have an outstanding example of Honda’s unmistakable VT1300CX Fury: a dramatic, factory-built chopper that combines true custom-bike presence with the engineering quality, reliability and usability for which Honda is renowned.
This particular bike is a 2013 model, finished in a striking metallic red with a colour-matched frame and bodywork. It has covered just 13,771 miles, has had only two owners from new and has recently arrived with us as a fresh Florida import.
The bike is presented in excellent condition throughout, with exceptionally bright red paintwork, beautifully preserved chrome and clean black-finished wheels. It is a superb-looking machine from every angle, with the long, low proportions and wide rear end that make the Fury unlike almost anything else on the road.
Priced at £7,995.
The Story Behind the Honda Fury
The Honda Fury was created to bring the appearance of a hand-built American chopper to riders who also wanted the dependability, refinement and engineering integrity of a major motorcycle manufacturer.
Introduced to the North American market in 2009, the Fury was a bold departure from the more traditional cruisers that Honda had previously produced. Its design centred around a distinctive “high-neck” frame, a heavily raked front end, an elongated fuel tank and a substantial open space between the steering head and engine. The result was the appearance of a professionally constructed custom motorcycle rather than a conventional production cruiser.
Unlike many specialist choppers, however, the Fury was engineered from the outset as a complete road-going motorcycle. Honda combined its radical styling with fuel injection, liquid cooling, shaft drive, carefully developed suspension and predictable handling. This gave riders the look and character of a custom-built machine without many of the compromises traditionally associated with one-off choppers.
More than a decade after its introduction, the Fury remains one of Honda’s most visually dramatic production motorcycles and is still immediately recognisable wherever it goes.
The Heart of the Fury
At the centre of the bike is Honda’s 1,312cc liquid-cooled, 52-degree V-twin engine. Its long-stroke design was developed to provide the strong low-revving torque, distinctive pulse and relaxed power delivery expected from a large-capacity cruiser.
The engine uses a single overhead camshaft, three valves per cylinder and twin spark plugs for each cylinder. Honda’s PGM-FI electronic fuel-injection system provides dependable starting and controlled fuelling without the cold-start and adjustment requirements associated with carburettors.
Power is delivered through a robust five-speed gearbox and low-maintenance shaft final drive. This is an especially welcome feature on a cruiser, eliminating the regular cleaning, lubrication and adjustment required by a chain while providing smooth and quiet operation.
This is not a frantic or highly strung motorcycle. The Fury is designed to produce its performance through low-down torque, relaxed gearing and the effortless feel of its large V-twin engine. It is equally at home cruising through town, enjoying sweeping A-roads or simply being admired when parked.
Genuine Chopper Proportions
The Fury’s stance is created by dimensions normally associated with a bespoke custom build.
It features a lengthy 71.1-inch wheelbase, a dramatic 32-degree steering-head angle and a narrow 21-inch front wheel positioned well ahead of the engine. At the rear is a broad 200-section tyre, tucked beneath the smoothly curved rear mudguard.
Despite the stretched appearance, the seat is only approximately 26.9 inches high, helping the motorcycle feel far more manageable when stationary than its long proportions might suggest. The sculpted rider’s seat also holds the rider securely within the bike rather than leaving them perched on top of it.
Honda cleverly positioned the radiator between the front frame tubes so that the liquid-cooling system does not detract from the clean custom appearance. Much of the mechanical hardware is hidden or carefully integrated, allowing the sweeping frame, sculpted tank and highly polished V-twin engine to remain the main visual features.
Cobra Swept Exhaust System
This bike has been fitted with a magnificent Cobra swept wrap-around exhaust system.
The long twin chrome pipes curve around the engine before following the line of the motorcycle towards the rear wheel. They complement the Fury’s flowing bodywork exceptionally well and look far more purposeful than a conventional straight exhaust system.
Cobra developed its swept system specifically to follow the Fury’s curved lines while enhancing its exhaust character. The result is a deep and purposeful V-twin sound that suits the bike’s appearance without spoiling its elegant, low-slung profile.
The chrome remains extremely bright and makes an excellent visual contrast against the red frame, red bodywork and black engine.
Power Commander Fuel Management
A Power Commander has also been fitted.
This is particularly relevant alongside the upgraded exhaust system. A Power Commander works in conjunction with the motorcycle’s original electronic control unit and can alter the fuelling to suit changes such as a freer-flowing exhaust. Depending upon its installed map and setup, this can help optimise the air-to-fuel ratio and improve throttle response and power delivery.
We are not making an unsupported claim regarding a specific horsepower increase; its principal advantage is that the bike already has suitable fuel-management hardware installed to complement its aftermarket exhaust system.
Excellent Overall Presentation
The condition of this Fury is a real credit to its previous owners.
The metallic red tank has a deep gloss and shows off the Fury’s unusual stretched shape beautifully. The matching red frame, front mudguard and substantial rear mudguard create a coherent, almost bespoke appearance.
The extensive chrome engine covers, cylinder-head covers and transmission casings remain exceptionally bright. These polished surfaces are a major part of the Fury’s visual appeal and are often the first areas to show deterioration on a poorly stored example, but this motorcycle presents extremely well.
Other features visible on the bike include:
- Black multi-spoke alloy wheels
- Chrome Cobra twin swept exhausts
- Aftermarket sculpted chrome control levers with skull detailing
- Compact bar-mounted mirrors
- Rider and pillion seating
- Rear passenger footrests
- Colour-matched red frame and body panels
- Wide rear wheel and substantial sculpted rear mudguard
- Large chrome headlamp shell
- Shaft final drive
- Front and rear disc brakes
The combination of bright red paintwork, black engine detailing and extensive chrome gives the bike a particularly strong custom appearance without becoming excessive or overdone.
Recent Workshop Attention
Since the bike arrived with us, we have fitted new fork seals.
We have also inspected the engine oil. Its condition is good and the level is exactly where it should be.
These checks form part of our preparation process and give the next owner additional reassurance that the bike has received attention since arriving in the UK.
Why Buy a Honda Fury?
The Fury is an ideal choice for someone who wants the visual impact of a custom chopper but does not want the uncertainty that can accompany a heavily modified or individually constructed motorcycle.
Honda designed the Fury as a complete package. The frame geometry, suspension, braking system, engine and shaft drive were all engineered to work together. It therefore offers a level of refinement and dependability that many traditional custom builds struggle to match.
It also occupies an interesting position in the cruiser market. It is far more distinctive than a conventional Japanese cruiser, yet it remains practical enough to ride regularly. Its fuel-injected V-twin is straightforward to live with, the shaft drive keeps routine maintenance to a minimum and the low seat gives it a reassuring feel when coming to a stop.
This particular bike is made even more desirable by its Cobra exhaust system, Power Commander, low ownership, excellent condition and vivid red finish.
