KEY INFORMATION
2006 Boss Hoss ZZ4 V8 – Custom Mountain Boss Hoss
5,735cc Chevrolet Corvette V8 | 20,489 Miles | £32,995
There are motorcycles, there are customs, there are muscle bikes… and then there is a Boss Hoss.
This stunning 2006 Boss Hoss ZZ4 is not simply a motorcycle with a big engine. It is a hand-built American statement piece: part cruiser, part hot rod, part show bike, and part rolling engineering theatre. Finished in a gorgeous royal blue and silver custom paint scheme, dripping in chrome, fitted with a thunderous Chevrolet V8 and backed by a history file that would put many concours cars to shame, this is one of those machines that stops people in their tracks before it has even been started.
Boss Hoss Cycles was founded in Dyersburg, Tennessee, in 1990 by Monte Warne, with the idea of building a proper cruiser around Chevrolet V8 power. What began as a radical concept quickly became a production reality, with Boss Hoss becoming known worldwide for factory-built V8 motorcycles and trikes using Chevrolet powerplants and semi-automatic transmissions. Boss Hoss itself describes the brand as the world’s first production manufacturer of V8 motorcycles and trikes, and the formula remains unlike almost anything else on the road: huge displacement, huge torque, smooth delivery and unmistakable presence. Boss Hoss Europe also notes the story of Warne taking his early V8 cruiser to Daytona Bike Week, where demand from riders helped turn the concept into a proper manufacturing operation in Tennessee.
The ZZ4 model sits right at the heart of that legend. Its 350 cubic inch small-block Chevrolet V8 is the sort of engine more commonly associated with American muscle cars and hot rods than motorcycles. In standard Chevrolet Performance form, the ZZ4 crate engine became famous for strong performance, durability and huge torque, quoted by GM Performance suppliers at 355 hp and 405 lb-ft in turnkey format. This particular Boss Hoss has gone further again, with the supplied specification noting a high-performance GM inlet manifold, FAST EFI conversion with touchscreen programmable handset, high-performance “Hot Cam” camshaft, HEI ignition and a quoted 385 HP / over 400 BHP.
This bike was originally from Pennsylvania and made its way to the UK in spring 2017, imported from Mountain Boss Hoss USA. Since then it has been in the care of our customer Steve, an engineer by trade, and although we have not personally met him, the way this bike has arrived tells us everything we need to know. It has been absolutely babied.
The bike came to us with a thick ring binder folder containing the original Boss Hoss owner’s manual, Pennsylvania title, maintenance history, service records, receipts, photos of Steve and the bike winning awards at shows, and much more. Everything is laid out in immaculate order. It is exactly the sort of ownership file you want with a machine like this, and exactly the sort of owner you want behind it: careful, methodical, mechanically minded and clearly very proud of the bike.
The condition reflects that. The blue and silver custom paintwork has real depth, the chrome is a major part of the bike’s visual impact, and the whole machine has that show-bike presence that only comes from years of proper care and enthusiasm. It is imposing without being crude, outrageous without being untidy, and beautifully detailed everywhere you look.
The specification is exceptional.
This Custom Mountain Boss Hoss is powered by a crated GM race Chevrolet Corvette V8 engine, displacing 5,735cc / 350 cubic inches. It is paired with a semi-automatic Nesco gearbox offering two forward gears plus reverse — or, as the spec file puts it perfectly: “Play in 1st, pray in 2nd!”
The engine has been upgraded with a high-performance GM inlet manifold, FAST EFI conversion with touchscreen programmable handset, high-performance Hot Cam camshaft, HEI ignition, ceramic plated headers, a show-chromed alternator, and a new starter motor fitted in March 2022. The cooling system has also been improved with a new aluminium radiator fitted in April 2022, supported by a chrome radiator air dam.
Visually, this bike is a showpiece. The royal blue and silver custom paint and graphics suit the Boss Hoss perfectly, highlighting the enormous tank, sweeping bodywork and broad rear end. The spec includes an enlarged 7-gallon ceramic-polished fuel tank, chrome crash bars, chrome front LED fog lights, blue LED night lights, a Flatline LED / blue-ring Truck-Lite headlight, and a chrome NOS bottle container mounted as part of the visual theme.
The cockpit and rider comfort have also been carefully considered. It features chrome pull-back bar risers, 1¼-inch handlebars, Grip Puppies, chrome clock and air temperature gauges, dual 12v DIN supply / charge points, and a quick-release tinted touring screen. Seating is handled by Mustang leather seats with backrests, giving both rider and pillion proper support, while the highway cruiser forward pegs complete the long-distance American cruiser riding position.
The rear of the bike is just as impressive. It has a chrome rear rack, Alden American rear shocks with rose fittings, a chrome American side plate holder, the “HO55” personal plate, and those unmistakable full chrome Mountain Hoss wheels, including the huge 300-section rear. Braking is taken care of by front and rear Brembo brakes, a very welcome and very important feature on a machine with this much presence, power and weight.
Lighting and detail upgrades include red/amber LED indicator mirrors, indicator running lights, chrome front LED fog lights, and the aforementioned blue LED night lights. The overall result is a bike that looks every inch the American show cruiser, but with the engineering and paperwork to back it up.
It is also clear that the bike has been properly maintained. According to the supplied file, the engine and gearbox oils and filters have been changed every year, and the history file includes the original manual, title paperwork, maintenance records, receipts and show history. That sort of documentation matters enormously on a Boss Hoss. These are not ordinary motorcycles, and buying the right one is all about provenance, care and the quality of the previous owner. This one ticks those boxes.
With just 20,489 miles from new, this Boss Hoss ZZ4 offers a very rare opportunity to own a properly sorted, highly documented, extensively upgraded and beautifully presented V8 cruiser here in the UK.
It is loud without needing to shout. It is powerful without needing explanation. It is excessive in the best possible way. A Boss Hoss is not bought by accident; it is bought by someone who understands American muscle, engineering theatre and the joy of owning something that simply cannot be mistaken for anything else.
This is a serious motorcycle for a serious enthusiast — a machine for the rider who already knows that ordinary will not do.
