This is not just another big cruiser. The Yamaha Raider has always occupied a very special place in the custom cruiser world. Launched as Yamaha’s answer to the factory-custom chopper movement, the Raider combined dramatic long-and-low styling with genuine Japanese engineering, reliability and rideability. Where many custom-style machines looked impressive but compromised handling, braking and everyday usability, the Raider was designed to deliver the visual impact of a custom build while still feeling composed, refined and confidence-inspiring on the road.

At the heart of the Raider is Yamaha’s mighty 1854cc air-cooled, fuel-injected V-twin engine. With huge low-down torque, a relaxed five-speed gearbox and low-maintenance belt drive, it offers exactly the sort of effortless pull and deep mechanical character that riders want from a premium big-inch cruiser. The Raider’s aluminium frame, raked-out front end, wide rear stance and low seat give it a distinctive chopper-inspired silhouette, but Yamaha engineered the package to remain stable, smooth and very usable.

This particular bike is the desirable 2015 Bullet Cowl version. The Bullet Cowl model was a special factory variant of the Raider, introduced with an aerodynamic front cowl and small screen surrounding the headlight. It gives the bike a tougher, more aggressive appearance, almost a performance-cruiser look, while also adding useful wind protection compared with the standard naked Raider. It is a subtle but very effective factory styling upgrade, and it suits the Raider perfectly.

Finished in black with factory decals and black wheels, this example has exactly the right presence. It looks muscular, purposeful and understated, with the dark finish highlighting the long stance, sculpted tank, huge V-twin engine and wide rear end. The condition is exceptional throughout, and the bike has clearly been cherished.

Another excellent feature is the chrome Yamaha OEM lockable, quick-release passenger backrest. These genuine Yamaha backrests are now hard to find, rare and very expensive to purchase. Being quick release, it gives the rider the best of both worlds: keep it fitted for passenger comfort and security, or remove it quickly for a cleaner solo custom look.

The bike is fitted with Avon Cobra tyres with a good amount of tread remaining, including a massive 240-section rear tyre that gives the bike an even stronger stance from the back. The rear end looks superb and really adds to the custom cruiser appeal.

As part of our preparation, we have checked the oil level, which is exactly where it should be, and the brake and clutch fluid has been renewed. The bike is ready to ride and enjoy.
